PROGRAM MISSION
The Justice Initiative is dedicated to guaranteeing equal access to justice for all individuals and communities impacted by corruption, irrespective of their financial capabilities. Through comprehensive pro bono legal services, we ensure that economic limitations never prevent victims from obtaining proper legal representation and pursuing rightful justice.
As Legal Supporters' flagship pro bono program, The Justice Initiative delivers high-quality legal assistance completely free of charge to those who have suffered from corrupt practices but lack the financial means to seek legal recourse. Our program operates on the fundamental belief that justice should be equally accessible to everyone, regardless of economic status.
CATEGORIES
INDIVIDUAL VICTIM REPRESENTATION
Our program provides complete legal support for individuals who have experienced workplace retaliation after refusing to participate in corrupt activities. We represent citizens who have been systematically denied essential public services due to corruption, while offering robust legal protection for whistleblowers facing professional discrimination or wrongful termination. Additionally, we extend legal assistance to small business owners who have been targeted by organized extortion attempts.
COMMUNITY IMPACT CASES
We undertake class action representations for entire communities devastated by corrupt land acquisition deals and provide legal advocacy for groups displaced through fraudulent development projects. Our services include representing communities that have been deprived of basic amenities due to misappropriated public funds, along with handling environmental justice cases involving corrupt practices that endanger public health and safety.
STRATEGIC PUBLIC INTEREST LITIGATION
Our program focuses on pursuing test cases that challenge systemic corruption while establishing important legal precedents. We initiate constitutional challenges against laws that enable or protect corruption, while bringing cases that reveal critical gaps in existing anti-corruption legislation. Furthermore, we engage in strategic litigation specifically designed to strengthen transparency mechanisms and enhance accountability frameworks within governance structures.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
We accept cases from individuals or communities presenting credible evidence of corruption-related harm, who can demonstrate genuine financial need. Priority consideration goes to cases possessing significant potential to advance public interest objectives and strengthen anti-corruption efforts, with the additional requirement that clients demonstrate willingness to actively participate in necessary legal proceedings.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The process begins with an initial screening conducted through our secure online portal or dedicated helpline, followed by a comprehensive case assessment performed by our experienced legal team. Applicants must provide complete documentation of their financial circumstances and case merits, which then undergoes rigorous review by our Pro Bono Case Selection Committee. Finally, accepted cases receive formal approval and assignment to dedicated legal counsel who provide continuous representation.
LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDED
We deliver thorough case evaluations and detailed legal opinions, alongside professional document preparation and precise legal drafting. Our services include complete court representation and comprehensive litigation support, supplemented by skilled negotiation and settlement assistance. We also provide appellate representation when necessary, combined with ongoing legal education and rights awareness programs for our clients.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES
Our program facilitates appropriate referrals to social services and professional counselling resources, while providing assistance with witness protection programs for high-risk cases. We engage in strategic media advocacy for cases with significant public impact, while conducting community legal education workshops to prevent future victimization. The program maintains capacity for emergency legal response in urgent situations requiring immediate intervention.
